Piano Concert for the Inner West - 15th November 2022

MJ Piano Lessons invites the community to enjoy an afternoon of classical, jazz, pop and contemporary piano tunes from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, Tuesday 15 November 2022 at Summer Hill Plaza, Lackey Street, Summer Hill. The crowd will be entertained by a diverse group of budding pianists aged from 5 to 71 years, some of whom are neurodivergent and have Down syndrome, autism, ADHD or dyslexia. Everyone is welcome, the concert is free and supported by Inner West Council.

"I am excited for my students to have this opportunity to perform in a public space and help educate the community that people of all ages and abilities can flourish from learning to play the piano, including those who are neurodivergent,” says Justin McKee, Piano Teacher at MJ Piano Lessons. "Children with disabilities and diverse learning needs experience a lot of joy when they learn the piano because lessons focus on what they can do instead of what they can't do. This can have a very positive impact on the rest of their life. "For any student, playing to a public audience gives developing musicians so many wonderful opportunities; it helps to build confidence, to experience the joy of sharing music and for some, they will get to demonstrate the very hard work they have put into preparing for exams. "I teach a few seasoned performers who will get a real buzz from the event. I am extremely proud of my younger students, some of who are naturally very shy and have agreed to step up and play on the day regardless. They are equally as excited about taking on this challenge. "I encourage the local community to come along and show their support for our local, budding musicians," says McKee.

Justin McKee, Piano Teacher at MJ Piano Lessons provides private piano lessons for children and adults and welcomes people of all ages and abilities. Justin has undertaken teacher training with Daphne Proietto OAM, Keys of Life which strives to "enable students with disabilities and diverse learning needs to flourish through music".
