MJ Music Studios is pleased to announce the recipients of awards for the 2020 academic year.
MJ Music Studios delivers piano lessons to students of all ages and stages in a private home studio in Summer Hill, Inner West of Sydney.
The awards are given to acknowledge the significant achievements piano students have made, highlighting areas in which they have excelled in.
All students receive music theory and technical training to support their practical studies.
Teacher Justin McKee says “I am thrilled with the progress and demonstration of flexibility displayed by all of my students during this challenging and sometimes difficult year”.
Music Student of the Year: Ozier
This award is granted annually to the best and most consistent performer in all areas of piano study: practical, technical and music theory.
Musical Growth Award: Genevieve
Demonstrating a significant improvement in one or many areas, the recipient has challenged themselves to become a better musician and is humbly reaping the rewards.
Junior Music Student of the Year: James
A new category for 2020, the Junior Student category acknowledges the all-round excellence of a Primary School student.
Best Creative Work: Reuben
Every year, jazz students are required to improvise and experiment with various forms of composition, and this award is granted to the most outstanding creative work.
It should be acknowledged that this year’s recipient is just 11 years old.
Best Effort - Online Lessons: Gwen
As the world adjusted to a new norm during the COVID lockdown, one student in particular utilised the experience and shift to online lessons to focus their energy and time and improved above and beyond all expectations.
Beginner Award – Repertoire: Eimear
This award ultimately rewards regular practise. It is given to the beginner who has the strongest collection of pieces that they can play at performance standard. Many students achieve performance standard in the moment, but do not continue to maintain their repertoire. It takes continued practise (building of excellent habits!) to receive this award.
Beginner Award – Music Theory: Maria
Each year, this award is given to a beginner student who is able to demonstrate a high-level of practical application of music theory as well as consistently delivering a high standard of written work throughout the year.
Beginner Award – Flip Learning: Audrey
A new award for 2020, this award is granted to a beginner who has demonstrated a strong commitment to flip-learning in the interest of enhancing their practical skills and musical development.
